Project RISE expands to Grade 2 as Flemish partners observe classroom implementation

by The RISE Team | Oct 13 2025

91精品黑料吃瓜-IIT’s Project RISE (Reading Initiatives with Stakeholders Engagement) marked a significant milestone by officially welcoming Grade 2 teachers into its program during a contract signing ceremony held on October 3, 2025, at the IDS Auditorium. The event was one of the highlights of the visit from the project’s Flemish partners, Prof. Dr. Wim Van Petegem of KU Leuven and Prof. Dr. Hilde Vanbrabant of University College Leuven-Limburg (UCLL).

The visit featured two days of immersive classroom observations at partner schools. On October 1, the team observed classes at North Central School, Villa Verde Elementary School, and Del Carmen Integrated School. On October 2, they continued their observations at Abuno Elementary School and Angelico J. Medina Memorial School. These visits allowed the partners to see how Grade 1 teachers implemented lesson plans and instructional materials co-developed with the Project RISE team.

The week’s activities culminated in a meeting and contract signing ceremony. The agreement, which took effect immediately and will remain in place until the project’s conclusion, formalized the commitment of Grade 2 teachers to the program. In return, Project RISE will provide training, resources, and sustained mentoring support.

The ceremony was attended by the Flemish partners, College of Education Dean Dr. Amelia Buan, DepEd-Iligan Education Program Supervisor for English Dr. Myra A. Ambalong, school principals, and Grade 1 teachers. Before the signing, the RISE Team presented the project’s accomplishments over the past year and shared a discussion paper analyzing the MATATAG Curriculum, which served as the foundation for the Grade 2 English curriculum map developed by the team. The presentation was followed by a productive open forum among the attendees.

Adding a personal perspective, Mery Joy R. Abang, a Grade 1 teacher from Luinab Elementary School, shared that the project made teachers feel valued and heard, as their ideas and experiences were integrated into the ongoing work of Project RISE.
